In the last four years transitioning from corporate career girl to business woman I have faced many times of uncertainty. And ‘they’ teach you – the only thing in this life that’s certain, is YOU.

Your make up, your reactions, your choices – that’s all certain. After all, you have control over those.

The rest is not.

Your job isn’t.

Your regular stream of clients isn’t.

The way other people choose to react to you isn’t.

Your home isn’t.

The warm weather isn’t.

Your relationship isn’t.

Your friendship isn’t.

Nothing is certain except YOU.

That’s why it’s surprising to me that in an industry in which I know this… I haven’t really known this.

I have been stripped of many things in the last 6 weeks.

I have been stripped of regular work, twice, my home, my direction within my business and a little bit of my independence.

This is not to insight sympathy or pity – it’s to simply share my observations on scenarios such as this.

So here they are;

Each time things have been stripped away, something bigger, better and brighter always comes in – you just gotta believe that. And it’s hard and a bit scary and very uncomfortable at times… but the space created will be filled by what’s really supposed to be there. (When one door closes, another opens, as ‘they’ say.)

There will be times when you’re tested and thrown into situations which you never thought possible…. But the way you handle them is really what’s key.

Feel it. If you’re angry, be angry. If you’re sad, be sad. If you’re frightened, be frightened. Just don’t hang out there for too long. Feel it, go to the depths of it, and then refocus.

Don’t panic. As a good friend said to me at the beginning of this week, switch your logical brain on and formulate the next steps. Slow down, breathe and listen… The answers will come.

There is always, always something to be grateful for. Focus on that and do not lose sight of all the yummy goodness that’s already in your life.

Got it? Good.

I do now too. Phew. What’s next?

With love

Lynda
