So what would be the reason I got you thinking about all the things you were grateful for, all those little things, on Monday?

Having been in the personal development game for a little while, gratitude pokes its head out quite a fair bit. I often hear that we need to be grateful, thankful for where we are and what we have on our journey. Of course! Of course we need to be. How great are our lives? The fact that you have access to reading this right now means you’re better off than 80% of the world’s population (I kid you not).

But what was the reason that it made us feel sooooo good to do it? Why was every personal development junkie I encountered so hell bent on this seemingly small thing?

Because gratitude is actually one of the highest vibrating words in the English language.

(Don’t worry, I’m not about to get all peace, love and mung beans on you. I’m just going to share scientific facts.)

Dr Darren Weissman (author of The Power of Infinite Love and Gratitude) tells us that, in fact, the words ‘love’ and ‘gratitude’ are  the two highest vibrating words of the English language.

These vibrations apply to both your thoughts and words. Whether you’re speaking them or thinking them, they are vibrating. Your thoughts and words have frequencies. They do. It’s been scientifically tested. Google it 😉

Frequencies can be of a high vibration, for example love and gratitude, or a low vibration, for example hatred and depression. Say these words out loud and notice the difference they create in your body. 

Those vibrations also attract similar frequencies. This is known as sympathetic resonance. Think about seeing someone smiling on the street. You feel compelled to join in. I bet you might even be smiling now just thinking about it. 

Therefore, it makes sense that if we are ‘grateful’, we attract more of that.

What you focus on, expands. If we focus on love, then we get love. If we focus on the things that we’re grateful for, then we get more of that.

How cool is that?

So here’s my challenge to you, just for this week, if it feels right, honour yourself and your life by listing three things, every day (whether it be first thing in the morning when you wake or just before you go to bed at night) that you are grateful for or that were great about the day. It could be anything. Start each sentence with, ‘Thank you for…’ or ‘I’m grateful for…’

And let me know how you feel. This is one of those ‘little things’ that can make a HUGE difference.
