Money. Money, money, money.

There is such an emotional charge around this plastic/ metal thing we exchange in order to receive what we’d like, whether it be a service, experience or product.

I spoke of ‘getting money right’ before you headed into a new business, venture or project a little while back. (Check it out – here.)

Now I’d like to talk about charging and just how to do that when it comes to running your own little assignment. (This will also apply to getting a new job, btw.)

It’s tricky, yes?

A lot of people choke up when it comes to charging for their time or product. Some recognise the value of their product, but do not recognise the time it’s taken to get it to the world. Some people recognise the value of their time, but when it comes to actually putting a dollar sign on that, feel sick at the thought of saying it out loud to someone.

Women especially find it tricky to ask for what they believe is true for them. Women especially find it tricky to ask full stop.

Here are three keys to striking a balance in finding the right ‘pricing’ for you;

Do some research; yes. There’s no escaping this. There is a market out there that will be doing similar things to you so tap into that. What are other people or products worth which run a similar vein? If you’re doing something that’s never been done before, ask potential clients what they would pay. Get the average and then…

Feel into your heart; Denise Duffield Thomas, author of Get Rich Lucky Bitch, tells us to simply do this – put your hand over your heart, close your eyes, breathe and start saying prices out loud until your body reacts and it’s too much or you start feeling uncomfortable. Personally, this has worked very well for me. When I tap into my heart space, there is no lying or trickery going on there. It’s simple truth. And my ego (head), as much as it wants to come to play, just has to shut up and wear it. I even remember when doing this activity my head saying, really, is that how much? And my heart saying, yep, that’s how much. I allowed my heart to take over.

Get your self- worth right and your net worth will increase; self- belief is a never ending path, one that is evolving each and every day. (I know it is for me.) Just when I think I’ve got it right, there’s another level I can see myself going to. It will be the same for you. Find things that help you increase your confidence. Personally, NLP, coaching and personal development have been invaluable on my own ride. Find the thing or things that help you and create a ritual around it, knowing that there’s always another rung on the ladder that can be climbed (and be comfortable with that!).

Another point to add, which now doesn’t fit nicely into my 3 keys but I’m adding it anyway, is PRACTICE. You must practice saying these things out loud. It’s not easy at first, but then learning to ride your bike without training wheels wasn’t either. Now look at you go 😉

I’d like to help you more on your money mindset. We’ll delve deep on it as part of the new Soulful Transition 6 Week Journey. Interested? Get more information and sign up here.
